     Cory
     Production Supervisor
     Purdue University, 2003
     NVHomes

We caught up with Cory - early on in his brand new job as a Production Supervisor.

Take us through a typical day on the job. What are the highlights.
Generally, I arrive at the job site around 7AM. Because I am still in training, I walk the job site right away with my Project Manager and review any issues that may occur. A good portion of the morning is spent directing and following up with subcontractors on daily jobs. The rest of the day is spent meticulously reviewing each lot. A proactive approach allows us to stay on top of things and keep construction as smooth as possible.

Tell us about your best day on the job?
That would probably have to be my first day on the site. I'd been looking forward to that day ever since I was an intern here two years ago.

Specifically, how does NVR support your career advancement?
NVR is well known throughout the industry as being a leader in training its employees. Being placed with several different Project Managers to learn varying management styles, as well as taking classes in the Production Training Program will really prepare me in all aspects of production supervision.

What would you say is the ONE thing you enjoy most about working at NVR?
The culture of the company. One of the first things I noticed as an intern was that even though I was new, I was welcomed as part of the group and treated like family. And it's the same now that I'm in production. That's a comforting feeling considering you spend most of your time with your co-workers.

Talk a little about the topic of advancement potential.
Opportunity for advancement is crucial for me. I am a goal-setter, so making sure that I am continually developing myself professionally is very important. NVR is well structured to allow its employees such professional development.

What would you tell someone to convince them to choose a career in homebuilding? What would you tell someone to convince them to choose NVR?
I find that other industries are dependent on the state of the economy. But people are always going to need a place to live, the homebuilding industry offers a great deal of job security.

Tell us about your best collaborative experience with a co-worker. What did you accomplish/achieve?
I am learning a lot from my Project Manager. He has been building homes for so long that his wealth of knowledge is incredible. I also admire his dedication to detail and strong relationship with his subcontractors. We all have a lot of respect for him.
