Busy with his duties as a Senior Financial Analyst, Geoff takes some time to answer a few questions.

What do you do as a Financial Analyst?
A day may begin with a staff meeting, either with regional management or with division management, to address hot topics of that week. This often includes a review of community performance, product and community costing topics, financial status updates, and staffing needs/issues.

For the rest of the day, you may find me:
Tell us about your best day on the job? What made it so special?
We were trying to put together a very desirable land deal for an upscale community. The Regional Manager, Division Manager, Land Manager and I had been working for several weeks with the developer on the terms of the deal with little success. As the Senior Financial Analyst, my job was to put together deal structures that would benefit both parties. I was finally able to create a profitable scenario that met the developer's criteria as well as our financial hurdles.

Specifically, how does NVR support your career advancement? (training, mentoring, etc.)
NVR allows me the freedom and flexibility to find those areas of the company that I wish to pursue. Although I am in finance, I have had the opportunity to cross-train in both production and sales. All of the areas of the company work very closely together, so it's good to have exposure to almost every job function.

For finance training, we have quarterly meetings where the finance staff gets together to share best practices, discuss hot topics, and address any training issues. On a more individual basis, the company has paid for preparation materials for my professional certification exam. The company also offers training classes as well as a large library of self-study courses.

In addition, the management team is very accessible and is always willing to offer advice or assistance in career discussions. I have had several senior managers ask how I feel about my career advancement and about what areas I may want to pursue.

Is there anything about NVR and/or your particular position that you would want job candidates to know?
I think that many candidates would be surprised to realize how much influence you have over the local operations where you work. I always thought that it would be fun to either start-up a company or run my own business, which effectively is what I get to do with NVR. The management team in each region drives all aspects of the divisions - from which staff to hire, to which communities to sign up, to the sales prices of the homes. That really creates a great sense of ownership and pride when you have a say in your success.

Talk a little about company strength.
NVR is widely recognized as one of the top performing homebuilders in the industry. The strong performance of the company provides many opportunities. First, developers know who you are, know that you have strong corporate backing, and know what type of presence you will bring into a new community. Next, as a large national builder, we have a lot of internal support for employees to complete their job, whether it is financial backing to open new communities or simply the knowledge and expertise of the staff. Finally, the strong performance and growth of the company is constantly creating new opportunities.

What would you tell someone to convince them to choose a career in homebuilding? What would you tell someone to convince them to choose NVR?

I would tell them to choose NVR because of:
