What is a typical day like?
One of the most appealing aspects of this position is the fact that no two days are ever identical. One day I am scheduling and holding appointments with different prospects. Another day I am conducting pre-construction meetings to share in my customers' excitement and involve them in the building process. Or I may be creating direct mail pieces for my communities in the target market. The highlight of each day comes from the fact that I am helping people make one of the most important buying decisions of their lives.

Tell us about your best day on the job?
My best day on the job was the day the Director of Marketing personally called to congratulate us for a successful month. I was very excited to know that the company and our managers recognized our hard work.

What would you say is the ONE thing you enjoy most about working at NVR?
The corporate culture. Employees at Ryan are happy to be in the homebuilding industry and have a passion for what they do. I have met many people with similar interests. Many of my co-workers and I have become great friends, even roommates.

Is there anything about NVR and/or your particular position that you would want job candidates to know?
NVR shares the financial success of the company with its employees. As a new employee, I was surprised to have access to so many employee benefits. I contribute money from each paycheck into a retirement account and invest in our company stock.

Job Autonomy.
Our Division Manager often reminds us that our job is similar to running your own business. I am responsible for every aspect of my job.

Job Training and Training for Advancement.
Excellent training - both classroom and on-the-job. NVR also offers a home library to advance your knowledge in different areas of the industry.

Advancement Potential.
From your first day at Ryan, you are able to identify a clear career path. Managers encourage that mindset, and you can see how having a clear path has worked for them. All my direct managers were promoted from the sales position and I know that more than 90% of the management team at NVR is promoted from within.

Freedom.
As a Sales Representative, you are certainly not in the traditional office setting. When my other friends go to the typical office every morning, I drive to a beautifully decorated model home.

Company Strength.
It feels great to sell a product I personally believe in, and to tell people that I work for Ryan Homes, since they are the number one homebuilder in Northern Virginia.

What would you tell someone to convince them to choose a career in homebuilding? What would you tell someone to convince them to choose NVR?
A career in homebuilding allows you to participate in one of the most exciting decisions people make in their lives. A new home is the American dream, and as a Sales Representative you have the ability to help people make that dream come true.


Tell us about your best experience with a homebuyer. What made them so happy?
The week after passing my Demo Day, I worked with a customer currently living in a townhome. The family needed more space and did not believe they could afford a single family home. The family was one of the nicest families I had ever met and I built a great relationship with them right away. I handled an appointment with the family while my Sales Manager was away for the weekend and showed them that they could definitely afford a single family home. They appreciated the time I spent with them and purchased one of the last home sites in that selection. They were so excited to move into their fine new home.
